Something Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary

Two simple people living a simple small town life in Ohio were led to remote areas of Asia to bring three babies home to love and care for them; but perhaps more importantly to share the love of Jesus. Twenty-five years ago I had never known anyone who had visited places like China or Cambodia, let alone adopt a baby from there. Throughout the Bible God uses the ordinary to do the extraordinary. He used David, just a shepherd boy who killed a giant and became king. What about Peter? Jesus saw Peter (his disciple) as the "rock" on which he would build his church, knowing full well Peter would deny knowing him. Let's not forget Mary, a teenage girl became the mother of Jesus, 'Savior of the world'. The Bible is full of ordinary, plain, simple people like you and me who said "yes" to God. Because they obeyed their lives were never the same.

Do you hear God calling you to do something incredible? Do you think it's too far out there? Maybe you're thinking, "This is someone else's calling. I don't have the skills to do this." Psalm 32:8 tells us "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." Listen to the Holy Spirit. What is He telling you? Do you have a soft spot in your heart for the poor or underprivileged? Is God asking you to go into the mission field, volunteer at a food pantry, invite college kids over for a meal, or even adopt a child ? Pray fervently and ask God to show you his plan. Begin telling others what is on your heart and ask for prayer. I know there are people reading this right now and a dream or an idea has entertained your thoughts. I am praying for you to say, yes and to pursue God's plan for you.

When God began stirring my husband and I's hearts to adopt, it was not only to take these babies into our home, but to nurture and love them as our very own children. He had ordained that we would be their parents. Our lives were forever changed because God saw a need and two ordinary people obeyed. We are now blessed and grateful for the gifts of our daughters. I am humbled that God used ordinary people like us to make the extraordinary happen. He has amazing plans for you too. Won't you say yes?

Prayer: Heavenly Father thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit who lives inside me, and who speaks to me in a still small voice. Show me the plans you have for me. Tell me what direction I need to go and what steps I need to take to get there. Continue to be right beside me, guiding me as I say yes to extraordinary endeavors.

Bible Verse: Psalm 32:8(NIV) " I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you."

Prayer: Lord, thank you for reaching out to ordinary people like me to use for your kingdom. Forgive me when I question my ability or qualifications to do something extraordinary; for I know my strength and help come from you. Continue to use this vessel to further your kingdom. Amen

Memory Verse: Philippians 4:19 (NIV) And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
