His Eye is on the Sparrow

"His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me." You may recognize these words as lyrics from a song titled, "His Eye Is on the Sparrow", which was written by Civilla D. Martin and Charles H. Gabriel in 1905. The song was inspired by a friend who had been bedridden for more than twenty years and continued to display hope in the midst of her suffering. Matthew10:31 states, " Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." Before Jesus sent His disciples out He told them they should not be afraid. He cared for them deeply and wanted them to know they would not be without troubles in this life, but He would deliver them. When we experience hardships God sees us and is with us. Even if our trial endures throughout our life on earth, He gives us hope in knowing He walks beside us.

Back several years ago, I had pneumonia and was unable to speak for two weeks. My breathing was labored and I spent many weeks sleeping upright in a chair. I of course took medications and breathing treatments, but Jesus is who brought me through my illness. He sent friends and family to nurture me back to health. Without a doubt I knew His eye was watching over me. To this day I still have some complications from the pneumonia. My singing voice is still weak and I am unable to sing as in the past, however I look forward to the day that I can fully use my voice to sing His praises. Until that day I will lift my hands and what voice I have to honor Him and glorify Him. He is truly my portion and all I need.

Maybe you're in the midst of a trial right now. Perhaps you're thinking, "Yes but I don't know what the test results will bring?" or "How will I make my house payment this month?", "My husband left and I can barely get through the day.", "My dad passed away too soon and I am angry.", "My family is falling apart." God is still watching over you. He sees your struggles. He knows you're hurting. Friend, if this is you right now, I pray that you can still see God through all the pain. In the very depths of our sorrow and suffering He is taking care of us. Believing He is always with us and taking care of us, even right in the middle of the fiercest battle we've ever been in can give one hope and peace. His eye is on the sparrow and He watches over me!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you're a good, good Father who loves and cares for His children. Thank you for always watching over me. I know your love for me is greater than I can even fathom. Even when I am going through some very tough days, I have hope because you are my constant friend who watches over me. Amen
