And That's The Truth

Some of you may be familiar with the actress Lily Tomlin from a 70's T.V. show called, Laugh-In. Tomlin's character was a 5 year old, who sat in an oversized rocking chair, where she brashly told true stories. At the end of the segment she always blurted out, "And that's the truth", sticking out her tongue and spitting! While audiences laughed at the stories she would tell, many of the scenarios probably hit home more often than not with many people. Why is it so hard to discern truth today? Or is it?
There are so many versions of truth but if it's a version, is it really truth? "I looked it up on the internet so it must be the truth. Four out of five dentists agree so it must be the truth. I see many of my Christian friends doing it, so truthfully it's probably okay. Our pastor never mentions pre-marital sex, homosexuality, or drinking alcohol therefore it must not be truly important." Why do we look to the media, our friends, or even our pastors for answers? Yes, we should seek Godly counsel, but Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6. If we want to know truth, we can know by looking to Jesus, praying, reading the Bible, and listening to the Holy Spirit. JN 16:13 says, "When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come."
God is truth and through our relationship with Him we can understand and know truth. The Holy Spirit will reveal the truth of God to us. We may question God and ask Him what is truth? He won't hide it from us; He will reveal it to us. Dig into His word, pray, and ask for answers. I challenge you today, If you are in a "gray" area, where you just can't decipher the truth because the world is telling you one thing, but your heart is saying something else read God's word, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal truth to you. Keep seeking and praying, write down scripture, and meditate on it. We cannot sit back and allow others to decide what is truth. God never changes. His word remains the same. Isaiah states, "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of God will stand forever." He is perfect truth.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, show me your truth. Discern in me your truth versus versions of truth. Open my eyes to see what you see. May there be no gray area; only truth. Thank you Father for loving me enough to share the truth with me. Amen.
